Social Security Update on Hearings During Covid-19

The Social Security Administration has come out with another update on Hearings in response to the pandemic.

Your local Hearings Office can be contacted here.

Regarding calling the Hearings Office, Agency employees can respond to issues such as confirming that you are available for your telephone hearing, or postponing your hearing if you prefer to be in-person or a video hearing, if these are available.

The Hearing Office can by telephone update your records and confirm your address and phone number, along with the status of your pending hearing. When you receive your call from the Agency the phone number will show as PRIVATE on caller id. Know that this is a government phone number, and the call is more likely than not for your Hearing.

Offices are currently closed. Administrative Law Judges are continuing to conduct Hearings by phone, until the COVID restrictions are lifted.

Remember, a telephone Hearing is not a mandatory requirement. You are able to postpone your Hearing or ask for a Hearing by video or in person. If you choose to reschedule, the Agency, at approximately twenty days prior to your rescheduled Hearing, will send a letter to you with the new date, the time and place where your Hearing will be.

Your rescheduled Hearing will still have the same assigned Administrative Law Judge, unless for some reason there is a need to reassign your file. At which point, Social Security has rules they must abide by when reassigning to another judge.
